Music Concert Series Featuring David Kassler Compositions

Two Concerts Featuring David Kassler’s Settings of Poems by Regionally and Nationally Recognized Poets A concert series of choral music composed by David Kassler will take place in Rochester, Minnesota, on Friday, March 24, and Sunday, March, 26, 2017. The concerts will feature a 30-member chamber choir of collegiate and professional musicians conducted by David Kassler with David Shaffer-Gottschalk, piano and Stephen Pelkey, cello. Seven choral works written for chamber choir, piano and cello will be featured. The choral works are choral settings by David Kassler of poems by Jana A. Bouma, Meredith Cook, Robert Hedin, Audrey Kletscher Helbling, John Reinhard, Michael Waters, and the late Janelle Hawkridge. Bell Choir & Brass Quintet

Bells & Brass The Adult Bell Choir, under the direction of Becky Bruinsma, and the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University Brass Quintet will present a “Bells and Brass Concert” this Sunday, February 19, 2017, at 4:00pm, for Good Shepherd Church’s Sunday Afternoon Concert Series. Under the baton of David Kassler, the concert will feature noted music for brass quintet, music for bell choir, music for organ and brass, and a combined work for bells, brass, choir, and organ. Proceeds from a good will offering will go to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Music Ministry and other charitable causes. Calling All Choral Singers, Past & Present!

If you are interested in singing as a soloist or choral member in a performance of  The Seven Last Words of Christ by Theodore Dubois, please contact David Kassler as soon as possible or by February 15th. We will perform the work with a live chamber orchestra on Good Friday at 7:30pm–if we have enough singers. To accommodate additional singers, we will have a 90-minute rehearsal immediately following the Lenten service on Wednesday, March 25th, and a 2-hour rehearsal with the orchestra on Wednesday, April 1st, from 7-9pm.
