Covid-19 Announcement 3.13.20

Dear members and friends of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, After consultation with our Church Leadership Council and considering the prevailing information from the Minnesota Department of Health and the CDC, a decision has been made to suspend all Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Building activities effective today through April 30, 2020.  We will re-access this decision on an on-going basis until which time we decide it is prudent for us to resume our usual church and building activities. This decision has been made with careful consideration for the health and well-being of each person who comes to this building.  Jesus said to the one who questioned which commandment is the greatest, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matt 22:37-39) From Jesus we’ve learned that the defining characteristic of those who follow him is love for each other.  We did not make this decision out of fear; we made it out of love for our neighbor. It is our hope that choosing to practice social containment for a time will limit the spread of infection, which in turn will protect the most vulnerable among us and prevent taxing what is sure to be a stressed health care system.  As leaders of GSC our love and concern for all of you is at the core of this decision. This is our plan being implemented today: Suspend all Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Building activities. We have communicated this decision directly with Ambassador Academy,...

FROM THE PASTORS DESK MARCH 2020

Lent 2020: Called to Real Life In keeping with our newly adopted Focus Statement: The sheep of the Good Shepherd will seek deeper Christian identity, practice, and faith by creating intentional time and space for holy experimentation in listening to the voice of Jesus. This Lent we will listen to the voice of Jesus who calls us to live our faith in daily life and work through Vocation (the Latin literally means “calling”). We want to go beyond so-called “special” callings to ordained ministry or calling to a vocation as opposed to a job. Vocation at its heart is the call to discipleship in all of life. It is the recognition that everything I do is service to God. Whether paid or unpaid, whether officially sanctioned by church or a random interaction, whether serving dinner at a homeless shelter or at your own kitchen table, we are doing the work of God. To speak this way about vocation is to recognize a way of life rooted in a God who cares deeply about the minutia, the rote, and the unglamorous as sites for God’s grace in the world. On Wednesday evenings we will dwell on the words of Saint Paul from Ephesians 2:8-10 – For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what he has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life. To put this in terms of vocation we...
